Artist Statement

Ryan is a Designer/Silversmith that specialises in designing hand crafted, bespoke pieces of silverware and tableware of the finest quality for home, office or corporate awards and presentation pieces.

Using form and texture to create highly tactile pieces his work is a fusion of contemporary and classic designs produced entirely by hand using traditional silversmithing skills that include hand-raising, chasing, forging, planishing and fabricating.

Ryan’s work is constantly evolving, most of his work is hand-raised and he can also produce work by forming and fabricating silver into innovative geometric vases and trophy awards. Most recently his influences come from nature and science, for example his hand-raised and chased sea urchin bowls and brain coral dishes reflect his fascination of the natural world.

Working with care and passion Ryan produces a wide range of unique and functional objects that excite with imaginative styles and finishes. Some of his work is bold and dynamic and he also creates contemporary designs with sculptured clean lines, offering something for everyone.  His work is displayed in some of the most prestigious exhibitions and galleries and amongst the finest private and public collections.

Ryan was invovled with a day course teaching various basic jewelery techniques at Bishopsland, where they run a workshop called ‘ring in a day’ for people with no previous experience who want to get involved with jewellery. As the name suggests members of the public come in and design and make a fully hallmarked ring in one day.

Ryan is also an artist in residence at the Glasgow school of art, where he teaches jewelery and silversmithing one day a week to a class of 15 second year students. He has taught a number of projects with them including stone setting, acid etching, piercing, casting, ring making and spoon making.
